A policy brief recently issued by the National Poverty Center (NPC) reveals that the number of households in the US living on less than $2 a day per person has increased by 130 percent since 1996, from 636,000 to some 1.46 million today.
This means that some 4 million people in “the richest country on earth” (according to US capitalism’s apologists) are surviving on less than $60 a month each, i.e., essentially on no income whatsoever.
“The industrial way of life leads to the industrial way of death. From Shiloh to Dachau, from Antietam to Stalingrad, from Hiroshima to Vietnam and Afghanistan, the great specialty of industry and technology has been the mass production of human corpses.”—Edward Abbey (via terrorofexistence)
“America touts itself as the land of the free, but the number one freedom that you and I have is the freedom to enter into a subservient role in the workplace. Once you exercise this freedom you’ve lost all control over what you do, what is produced, and how it is produced. And in the end, the product doesn’t belong to you. The only way you can avoid bosses and jobs is if you don’t care about making a living. Which leads to the second freedom: the freedom to starve.”—Tom Morello (via iwanttheairwaves)
“Vegan alternatives are not inherently better for animals or the planet. Pleather and faux fur—staples of vegan fashion—are petroleum-based products. The environmental devastation caused by petroleum—climate change, oil spills, toxic water, acid rain, genetic mutations—are well known and vast. While many vegans will tout the environmental values of hybrid cars, bicycling, reusable shopping bags and eliminating demand for factory farms, the analysis rarely curbs the demand for couture. Sure, cows were not slaughtered for our beloved shoes, coats and belts. However, plenty of other animals were destroyed when their habitats were ransacked, covered in oil, poisoned and abandoned.”—

“Crucially, an opposition to capitalism and landlordism, and a politics of class struggle, is integral to anarchism and syndicalism: the state is certainly a target of the anarchist critique, but views that hold that anarchists see the state as “responsible for all inequality and injustice,” or “as the root of all evil,” seriously distort the anarchist position, and purge it of its socialist content and origins. The notion of “anarcho-capitalism,” used by some writers, is a contradiction in terms.”—Michael Schmidt and Lucien van der Walt - Black Flame: The Revolutionary Class Politics of Anarchism and Syndicalism (2009)
Black farmers in the United States are disappearing. Their numbers shrank from approximately 900,000 in the 1920s down to about 43,000 in the last U.S. Census — down to less than 1 percent of America’s farmers.
“I’m not a Democrat, I’m not a Republican, and I don’t even consider myself an American… I’m speaking as a victim of this American system. I see America through the eyes of the victim. I don’t see an American dream, I see an American nightmare… They have got a con game going on, a political con game and you and I are in the middle. It’s time for you and me to wake up and start looking at it like it is, and then we can deal with it like it is.”—Malcolm X, May 19, 1925 – February 21, 1965 (via fuckyeahmarxismleninism)
People of color are incarcerated at a higher rate with greater sentences for the same charges faced by white people. “…”
Unemployment is higher for POC than it is for white people. “Well, they should find jobs, then.”
A disproportionate amount of people of color are living in poverty in the United States. “They should work harder.”
POC are paid less than white people for the same work. “What was that, I can’t hear you.”
Whiteness is viewed as the norm and POC representation is seriously lacking. “… What does that even mean?”
POC are disproportionately less likely to go to college because of socioeconomic hardships imposed upon them by an unfair system and the long lasting effects of a history of oppression. “AMERIKUN DREEM.”

“When the highwayman holds his gun to your head, you turn your valuables over to him. You ‘consent’ alright, but you do so because you cannot help yourself, because you are compelled by his gun. Are you not compelled to work for an employer? Your need compels you, just as the highwayman’s gun.”—Alexander Berkman (via socialistscum)
As the nation is deluged in an avalanche of bills restricting abortion access, Tea Party freshman state Rep. Kim Pearson has introduced an Iowa bill that some are calling the most radical of them all.
Among other things, the bill makes it so a doctor that performs an abortion commits “feticide” — a Class A felony, which is punishable by life imprisonment without the chance for parole. The bill makes “attempted feticide,” where the fetus does not die, a Class B felony, punishable by 25 years in prison. Iowans can even be punished for helping someone else perform an abortion, as, “joint criminal conduct shall apply to persons knowingly participating or concerned in the commission of feticide or attempted feticide under this section.”
Please note that this bill is being introduced by a woman. This is why our fight is so hard. When women like her do things like this, they create female allies for those who endorse this way of thinking. ”If women and moms think abortion is murder, clearly the rest of you are wrong!” The disservice done to us by such women, women in positions to make changes for our betterment, makes me furious. ~ Kim
:::::(~FETICIDE~)::::: GET THESE PEOPLE OUR OF OUR GOVERNMENT.
Indeed, conceit, arrogance, and egotism are the essentials of patriotism. Let me illustrate. Patriotism assumes that our globe is divided into little spots, each one surrounded by an iron gate. Those who have had the fortune of being born on some particular spot, consider themselves better, nobler, grander, more intelligent than the living beings inhabiting any other spot. It is, therefore, the duty of everyone living on that chosen spot to fight, kill, and die in the attempt to impose his superiority upon all the others.
